MOPS - stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. The purpose of MOPS is to nurture these moms by meeting their distinct needs, regardless of background or denomination, to the glory of God. Mostly MOPS is about celebrating motherhood, meeting needs, experiencing God's love through relationships and resources. The Jasper MOPS group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 6:30-8:30, September thru May. Volunteers are needed to baby-sit for the meetings. Contact Julie Degalleford - 770-382-4296.
Preschool - Through volunteering in this area you have the opportunity to make a baby or young child's attendance at church be a warm and loving experience. Weekday Preschool-ages 2-4 years old meet Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, September thru May. Nursery ages birth - 4 years old. Sunday School 3-4 years old. Good Samaritan Health & Wellness - Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center is a not-for-profit, volunteer-operated clinic that provides free and compassionate health services to the uninsured of Pickens County. The clinic provides basic medical care, dental care, vision services and social services. We are open weekday mornings. Over 250 volunteers are needed every month to operate Good Samaritan. Healthcare volunteers are needed but many of our valuable volunteers have no healthcare experience at all.
Piedmont Mountainside Hospital Auxiliary - Mountainside Medical Center Auxiliary strives to be helpful and caring through assistance to patients, visitors and employees for the MMC Hospital. They engage in mutual support of the Hospital to assure this community a healthy and strong future through donations of their time, talents and resources. Contact Karen Fowler - 706-692-0338
Prevent Child Abuse -Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect in all its forms through support and education. By educating and supporting parents at birth, a healthy parent-child bond can develop, enabling families to have improved abilities to meet the basic needs of their family. Pickens Pregnancy Center - The Pickens Pregnancy Center is a non-profit Christian organization ministering to young women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. We exist to bring compassionate help to women and teens who are unprepared for pregnancy; to present sexual abstinence as the only positive option for teens; to provide healing and restoration for those who have had abortions, and to present Christ as Savior and Lord. 706-253-6303 - Mon & Wed 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sharmon Weeks, 706-692-6541
Community Thrift Store - The Community Thrift Store accepts donations of reusable clothing and other items. It is totally operated by volunteers. all profits are returned to the community to help those in need. Clothing is donated to those that can not afford to pay and sold to others at great prices. Over 75 tons of excess clothes are shipped overseas each year. In the first four years of operations the store has provided local grants of over $400,000. C.A.R.E.S. - C.A.R.E.S. serves God by providing food to residents of Pickens County. Anyone who is placed in a difficult situation due to illness, accident or any misfortune that places them in temporary need is welcome here. We distribute food on Monday & Fridays from 8:30-12:00 noon. We also offer emergency financial assistance for prescription medicine, utilities, rent or mortgage payments, or necessary transportation. We seek to share God's love through gifts of food believing that those who receive these gifts will be encouraged to share God's love with others in their daily lives. Contact JUMC at 706-253-2100
Sunshine Camp - Sunshine Camp was created to enable children with disabilities to attend an adaptive sports camp. The goal is to provide physically and mentally disabled children an opportunity to experience the fun, competition and friendship that able-bodied campers enjoy. Angel Tree - Sometimes God calls upon earthly "Angels" to help care for His little ones. That's what Angel Tree is all about: Men and Women who reflect the light of Jesus Christ upon the wounded spirits of prisoner's children. Bus Ministry -Our mission is to bring unchurched children and youth to our church each Sunday to experience Jesus' love and learn the word of God. We provide a granola bar for children when they board the bus on the pick-up route and a sweet treat when they exit the bus on the return trip. You are welcome and needed. JUMC English Classes - Our ESL project at JUMC is intended to extend a hand of Christian Fellowship to our Hispanic neighbors by offering practical instructions in the English language. Our students are very receptive and comment that they are becoming more able to interact with the English speaking community. Volunteers are needed for childcare, transportation and instruction.

Jasper United Methodist Women - The United Methodist Women is a group of women in our congregation organized for Ministry and Mission. The UMW circles hold fundraisers, such as the Sharing our Best" cookbook, the "Community Birthday Calendar" and the annual Marble Festival Road Race. First Mountain City Quilters - The quilt group meets every Monday from 10 am to 2 pm in the upstairs classroom at the church. We usually bring our own lunch or order out. Our group consists of every level of quilters, although we are humbled by experts. We have a lot of fun, fellowship, friendship and laughter. Some of us actually quilt, others knit or crochet. Some members are just there for the fellowship. Our group is comprised of all ages and we are always happy to have new members. HOPE House -Hope House is a temporary foster care home for abused children in the Pickens County area. Over 225 children have found refuge and love at Hope House since its opening in 1998. The home relies on donations to support its mission. Volunteers are needed periodically to assist with up-keep and remodeling. Launch Pads for Literacy - Launch Pads for Literacy began operation in 2000 and is a cooperative project between the school system and the community. Volunteers refurbish used computers and place them in the homes of families that can not afford computers by other means. Computers are also placed at other sites to support learning. Pickens County Reading Council - The Pickens County Reading Council is open to all citizens for membership and is committed to encouraging and promoting reading in the community. The council oversees programs that support opportunities for both adults and children to be involved. Interesting volunteer activities are available. Pickens County Family Connection - The Pickens County Family Connection is a collaborative agency that meets monthly. All citizens of Pickens County are invited to “come to the table” to support better quality living in Pickens County. The organization coordinates activities with many agencies to address issues such as drug abuse, wellness, community development, and education. River of Life - River of Life Mission Advance is a series of camps like no other. Young people and adults from dozens of churches will come together for five days dedicated to serving others through mission work. Youth can volunteer for yearly trips and adults can volunteer to work as a team leader for a River of Life in Pickens County.
Young Life Pickens/Dawson - Young Life is a fun, sometimes crazy, but always safe place for high school and middle school kids. They usually meet at someone's home on a weeknight during the school year, and attend an awesome camp in the summer. Contact Justin Chandler - 706-253-3222
Pickens County Schools Volunteer Program - The Pickens County School System Volunteer Program provides opportunities for community members to improve the quality of local education through volunteer service. Volunteers may want to make a one-time presentation or contribution in an area of their talent or interest. If a volunteer wants to assist in an on-going manner, the STAR Volunteer Program provides training and special status to enhance a volunteer’s capacity to provide help in a wide variety of areas.
