April 9 was the last Sunday in the season of Lent; Palm/Passion Sunday is seen as Sunday of celebration as it is the last Sunday in this season of reflection and contemplation. Too often Palm Sunday begins a time of celebration, as we wave palm branches and commemorate the triumphal enter of Jesus into Jerusalem as Passover begins, that goes all the way to Easter Sunday morning. We don’t like the humble servant of a foot washing Jesus or the pain and agony of the sacrificial love Jesus found at the cross. Don’t let Holy Week pass by without experiencing the Jesus of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Spend some time with the April 9 text Matthew 26:14-27:66. Pay attention that it was the pain and agony of the beating and the cross, the death of Christ, which brought a Roman Solider to exclaim, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” It is the willingness of Jesus to go to the cross that saves us, pays the price for our sin and allows us once again to be in a relationship with God. Experience Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and know you are loved so deeply that Christ was willing to die for you!
