I have allowed too much time to go by between sermon recaps. This past Sunday, February 12 we looked at 1 Corinthians 3:1-9. 1st and 2nd Corinthians is understood to be a compilation of letter written by the Apostle Paul to followers of Christ in the area of Corinth. The Corinthian letters are filled with history, guidance and inspiration. This particular text shares that Paul was reminding the Corinthians that they needed to continue to grow in their relationship with God. They were still quarreling amongst themselves and this was not what a follower of Jesus should be doing. This is one reason the Corinthian letters are still needed today. Even in 2017 we Christian people still quarrel with one another. A big part of the issue for the Corinthians was some were stating argue over who was their leader, Apollos or Paul. Paul wanted them to understand that it was not about Apollos or he it was about God. At one point in the text Paul states that he and Apollos were working together to share the good news with the Corinthian people. Working together as Christian brothers and sisters what an idea! Why is it that even today, 2017, we struggle to work together? We allow things that don’t matter keep us apart and prevent us from sharing the good news. Did you know next to church being boring, in fighting among Christians is what most non-Christians sight as the main reason they don’t attend a church. In fighting, in other words we follow Apollos, we follow Paul, can’t we see that we all follow Jesus. WE get too caught up in our own issues and our own opinions and it keeps us from working together! What I see in this text that is important for us today is we need to work together to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world! We need to work together as members of JUMC and we need to work together as Christians here in Jasper, Pickens County, Georgia, America and the World! It is only then that we will be the church! To help share these thoughts spend some time with the following videos I shared on Sunday. Allow God to work in your heart as you consider my thoughts and these video’s. Let’s continue to work together and be a good example of what Paul encourages and what God calls us to do as followers of Christ!
